I can see your point about the top 10 Priest. By the way thanks again for all your work in updating scores, medals etc.

Thanks RiKo. Smile I've never been any good at making avatars and sigs but am starting to get the hang of it now.

Noooooo! ShockShockShock (only joking) I've never really understood the appeal of JVCD. You and Priest seem to be really big fans. When it comes to action stars for me it's got to be Chow Yun Fat.

Merlin - Oh no .I don't think I've seen any Chow Yun Fat films except Pirates of the Carribean- lol. I went through a period when I didn't watch any TV at all for about 5-6 years - so I'm blaming it on that Smile

I used to love JCVD's films when I was younger. My favourite film for a while was Kickboxer. He is one of the few great modern action heroes - maybe not in the same boc office league as Stallone or Schwarznegger but in the next tier. He has great balance as a martial artist. But he also has a lot of charm, and comedy value - this is why he is great. I would go so far as to say he is a comedy genius

Someone like Steaven Segal has great comedy value but lacks the charm.

I mean watch this video - only JCVD can dance with 2 women and look gay Smile

YouTube Video

In real life there was also that time he got a permanent erection and his famous superhero quote - see my sig! and he was in Friends - I demand a JCVD thread!

Thanks Priest - you are on the JCVD team Grin - watch out for the splits in my video above - you just know they are going to happen!

Hahaha Thanks for the clip RiKo. I counte 3 splits in under 3 minutes.

Damn Iīm feeling embarassed just to be watching this. That dance is just plain stupid and silly.

Out of curiosity: Why didnīt you watch any TV back then, RiKo?

Either you start a JCVD apreciation thread or I will, thts not a threat its a promiseWink

Ok I've got to admit that clip was quite funny. He's got some rather strange dance moves. Grin I've never actually watched a JVCD film all the way through I tend to switch off pretty quick. One day I'll watch one all the way through.

You should check out his Kong Kong films RiKo. they really are incredible in particular the A Better Tomorrow trilogy, Hard Boiled, The Killer and Full Contact. Here's a little clip from Full Contact directed by Ringo Lam. Chow Yun Fat was betrayed and shot and left for dead in a burning building. He's nursed back to health by some monks and then gets into training so he can exact his revenge on the psychopathic crime boss played by Simon Yam. This film is amazing and all CYF/action film fans should check it out.

Here's the CYF thread at NGFL:

Nice video Merlin Smile I always like training montages. I will watch some Chow Yun Fat films soon. I have to admit JCVD films were very much of their time, but they are still watchable today if you are in the mood. He is a legend too Grin

Ok Priest JCVD thread coming soon.......(I just didn't watch TV then becuase I was in bad health then).

lol at the JCVN love in this thread. LOL

I've been pretty quiet here, so I thought I'd make a suggestion. The medal/award system seems really great! But, wouldn't it be better if the medals were given at the end of a week? This way, it would encourage more players to protect their highscore during the course of the week, and it would minimize the work for both Priest and I.

... This way, maybe I can get a medal too! Pfft
Without love, the truth cannot be seen.

RiKo
You will have to actually enter some challenges to get a medal cat Smile There are some where you are actually guaranteed a medal! since not enough people entered. JCVD was actually in a medal position for on of the challenges for a while. (he is pretty great though - he doesn't even have to play on the game to get a medal)

Personally I like how the medal system is now, mainly because I am usually only able to play for 2 proper sessions a week (sometimes 3). So it gives me some time to get good. It would be great to hear other opinions though.

I actually would prefer it we only had one high score thread every 4 weeks, but I realise this is just me Smile

I think some of the guys think you have to be really great at a game to be able to enter - but I want to emphasise that this is not the case. Its for fun Grin I have entered rubbish scores on many occasions - and wil continue to do so Pfft You can always beat yourself Smile

Also I think that maybe we will see more entrants when some of the really popular games come up (which tend to be the later games - like KOF, Last Blade 2, MOTW etc)

I want to thank Priest especially (and Cat too) for all the hard work on the high score challenges. Smile

Actually, I was just referring to the fact that everyone's highscore is so high!! Shock

But, what I meant was that the medals should be awarded at the end of the week (Sunday), otherwise, and I don't mean any offense, the medal system seems ... obsolete, its no different than just placing first/second/third, I think we should be able to defend the medals. And, as I mentioned, it would encourage everyone to participate and defend their highscores. I wanted to mention it here first, and see what everyone thinks, before I elaborate with Kaz, and Priest, and see what they think.
Without love, the truth cannot be seen.

priest
Cat: The scores being so high I suppose is an effect of a challenge beeing popular as more members seem to enter it (obvously). And as I have written before this triggers at least me to try to better my scores, even though I donīt have time to play as much as I would like. And this effect is the main purpose of each challenge, TO GET BETTER AT THE GAMES WE PLAY and the if we manage to get to the top three in a game in the process, then thats just fun.

I think the medals add a little extra to the challenges, after we added this I noticed a slightly higher number of members who entered with scores of their own. This is of course up to each member to decide if he/she donīt like to get awarded with medals then just PM me and I wonīt give them any. On the whole though I think its an apreciated feature.

I donīt understand what you mean would be different in handing out the medals each sunday? Even though you get a medal the first day of the challenge, this is still a medal another member can conquer by achieving an even higher score. So I think this is something that works already and donīt need to be changed, unless a majority of members think so of course...

But, that's my point, I don't think its fair for someone to lose a medal just because someone got 1 point higher than the other person. I think that person should have time over the week to claim his medal back. And who knows, maybe we could expand on this. If a person keeps his medal for a whole month, maybe we can have some sort of award? Or another prize?

We could update all the medals on Sunday. This would minimalize work, since I know it can be troublesome to keep track of the highscore board, Hall of Fame, and the medals.

Ah, pretty dumb idea >_>.
Without love, the truth cannot be seen.

RiKo
I am all for minimising work if that would make things easier for you guys. As for losing medals - it doesn't bother me too much, since I know I will get them back eventually - damn you Solidus Grin lol Give my Blazing Star medal back! Grin

I do think we need to get people to enter their scores even if they aren't so good. We need to emphasise that the whole score competition is just for fun. I actually still find it fun even if I am competing for 4th or 5th place, just as long as I can beat my own score I am pleased.

Cat - you totally kicked my ass on Last Blade - I think you are pretty good Thumbs Up

Something's occurred to me. By the time we come across the Neo-Drift New Technology Highscore challenge, how is that game going to be counted in a score? This Neo-Geo game has no points, but it has overall time. When its game over or winning all seven stages, you get the grand total score. Whoever gets the shortest time, wins the gold medal. Does that fit? Or it's not going to work?

I havenīt played this game enough to have a straight answer for you but I can promise you that by the time this game is the HSC game I will have an idea on how to award the medals...

I think there are some games which deserves to be in the challenge before this game does.

Is there any interest in a new HSC game?

I'm not really sure how we could do a challenge on Neo Drift Out but it would be nice if we could seeing as it's such a good game.

Will I think you should have another go at the Magician Lord challenge. I bet you could beat my scores easily.

Priest I'd be keen on a new challenge. How about either Andro Dunos, Zupapa or Nightmare in the Dark? Perhaps you have a different idea yourself though.

priest
Merlin: Those are all some great contenders for the next HSC game. Iīve wanted Strikers 1945+ for a while now and seeing how other shootīem ups have really been popular (or atleast more popular), so Strikers or Andro Dunos might be up next...

If more members show their interest in entering a HSC I might arange a vote between some games to decide which game is up next...
