Price Guide

75 for Fatal Fury Special is crazy! It makes me laugh seeing some of the ridiculous buy-it-now prices you get on ebay. I can remember seeing Shock Troopers 2nd Squad for 500! My near-mint copy cost half that price. I think I also saw Breakers for about 450 one time. If you want a laugh have a look at this site: http://www.telega... Are they still trading? Those prices are insane.

I think that the NG.com list does take ebay auctions into account.

RiKo
lol - that Telegames site is very funny - 249 for AOF2 and get this Jap Mark of Wolves a bargain at 1,298! Pulstar at 999.

I got my Mark of Wolves 3 weeks ago for 205 (+postage) (180 total with Ebay discount)

By the way when we are looking at MVS games do they have to be fully complete (with kit and boxes).?I normally just buy cartridges because I only collect AES games, so I'm not sure what most people go for.

I've been thinking some more about this price list and am quite keen to start monitoring prices. Do you think it would be best if we divide the games up between whoever is interested so that each person is monitoring certain games? Like I said before I would quite like to do the Neo CD games. Does anyone else want to do them aswell? I could do half of them or all if no-one else was interested.

This is how I would do it:

Check the online stores like neostore, vgi, genki etc. once a month because their stock doesn't change very often

Do a thorough search of ebay once a week noting all buy-it-now prices and bookmarking all auctions so that I can see ending prices

Check out the neo-geo.com selling forums from time to time

Does that sound alright?

RiKo
I've already started monitoring the Metal Slug games on Ebay. Unfortunately I can't really do any more at the moment. I forgot about the CD ones though.

Shiny's in charge - but you might as well start - it doesn't matter if we don't get a complete list up to start with - we can add to it and improve it. Go Merlin Smile

That sounds perfect to me merlin. If you want to divide teh NGCD games between you and I, I'm happy to monitor them. I think you and I are the only NGCD lovers here y'know... One of us take 2020 through League Bowling and the other Magician Lord through Zin Trick? Should we include Last Hope...?

I think that we should definitely divide the games up... But it depends on how many people are willing to contribute...

Anyone that wants to help out by monitoring prices let me know in this thread so that we can divide everything up equally.

As merlin suggested, monitoring the prices would include:

# Checking online stores.
# Watching eBay auctions and waiting for the end prices.
# Checking private (yet public) sales like those at N-G.com

# Bi-monthly sending the results to me at

Note that postage rates are irrelevant and should not be taken into account.

I will make a start this week on layout etc.

@Riko: The prices for MVS carts should be, imo, for the cart alone. Anyone disagree?

Edit: I forgot to mention, I think the games should be divided between us first by AES/MVS/CD/Pocket and then alphabetically... Rather than monitoring all formats of any one game. Agree/disagree?

Sounds good to me. So if I take 2020 up to and including League Bowling is that ok? In fact I'm ready to make a start on this tomorrow. I personally think we should include Last Hope in both the AES and CD lists. What do you think Shiny? I know there are other homebrew games but Last Hope is of such a high quality that it could have been an official release. The inserts/spine card make it look like an official release. By the way to go a little off topic did you get a chance to play it yet Shiny? I can remember you were quite excited about it. Superb game imo.

When checking prices I think we should only take into account games which are complete and in fairly good condition. Games in poor condition and also games which are ridiculously overpriced I think should be disregarded. That's probably stating the obvious though. I was looking the other day and it's amazing how cheap some of these CD games are e.g. Fatal Fury 3 for $5 Buy-It-Now! That's a real bargain.

Shiny
Yep, sounds good to me, that's the NGCD games sorted. I think we should include Last Hope, even though it wasn't an official release it won't hurt the guide to have it in there...

And no, I haven't played it yet...:( I planned to get the CD version but I still haven't done anything about it. I really should, I've heard nothing but good things.

Complete and in good condition games might be stating the obvious but you're right and I probably should have mentioned it...

And I know what you mean about the CD games, I got my copy of FF3 for 99p! How anyone can comlain about the loading times (which in all honesty I think are exaggerated) when the games cost so little is beyond me.

People used to really hate the juggling monkey on the loading screen - I remember in Edge magazine they said that.

I also read the Neo Geo CD version of Last Hope was enhanced after complaints about the other versions being too hard - I think they added pink bullets, and tweaked it a bit.

I would really like to know what the AES version goes for on Ebay - I bet its very expensive! (I have never seen it - though I don't look for it much)

Ah, the juggling monkey... He's not there in all the games. In fact, some of the load screens are quite cool, the Sam Sho 3 ones are very well done. Imo most of the load times are reasonable and on a par with other CD based consoles of the time, except for the later fighters like Last Blade which is ridiculous. But if you can imagine the PSOne trying to load the same game, without ommiting anything, you'd have exactly the same problem. We should be glad of the fact that it loads at all.

My apologies to those of you that went to the effort of tracking prices for this ever-delayed project.

As ever I've taken on far more than I actually have time for and, sadly, this is one thing that seems to be getting pushed further and further down the list.

I would like to see this happen as I think it would be a great addition to the site and valuable resource for members/collectors but I just don't have the time to coordinate it or track prices. So I'm offering it up for someone else to take over should they wish to. I can still help in other ways, and will, I'm not about to discard the project completely but the meat of it is going to have to completed by someone else. If not it may never happen. Smile

No worries Shiny. Smile It's quite a time consuming task and you already contribute to the site in other ways like avatars etc. To be honest I've been feeling quite guilty about this price guide because although I did check prices in november I've done nothing since then despite repeatedly promising I was going to do it. Sorry about that.

Even if you had more time to spend on it Shiny I think there still would have been a problem because there were only ever a very small number of people checking prices so that would I feel have made it difficult to make an accurate price list. I still think it's a good idea though so perhaps the idea can be revived in the future at some point.

RiKo
Yes - even though I was only doing Metal Slug prices, even that turned out to be a lot of work, so don't worry Shiny SmileMaybe we should just make a price guide up just on good judgement, and let people tweak it as they see fit. It would be too much work to monitor prices all the time.

Neo prices seem higher than ever - on the desirable games - at the moment - what's going on? I've hardly bought anything recently - just don't want to pay that much.

I still think it'd make a good addition to the site, and I might see if I can throw something together at some point but it's the price tracking that's time consuming. As you both know.

merlin, don't feel guilty, we've all slacked off on this. I guess the problem with voluntary projects like this is you can't say to anyone, hey, where's the prices?

RiKo, I think the current economic climate is probably poking a dirty finger around in Neo prices, as everything seems to affected at the mo. People just aren't spending a lot of money at the moment and instead of forcing prices down it's actually pushing them up. Economics. Bah.
