The all new useless info topic post thingy! Post random stuff here! (see 1st post)

Im running a single platter Seagate 160GB SATAII as my primary XP drive along with 3 PATA drives and there is no problems.

Just chekout what youre chipset is capable of before you spend youre cash and you will be ok. You will be able to choose a "mixed" mode that will allow both on the same cable if need be usually making the SATA drive the primary since it will be the fastest, that can be changed to PATA first if you want [ though for the most part SATA drives are faster only in theory as most motherboard chipsets cant take advantage of what the drives chipsets offer just yet ] Mainly I think the only thing you cant do is mix IDE with SATA to form a RAID Array, though there may be a way to do that ?

I have no use for RAID so I havent looked into it much these days.

Should you get an SATSII drive take a look at the Seagate drives, the new ones are a huge improvment over most multi platter drives Ive looked at lately. Mine makes almost no heat and even under full load you really cant hear from 2 or 3 feet away if at all.

Again speed is questionable out of any SATA drive as they generally arent any faster than a comparible Parralel drive and the truth is most UDMA100 drives run at 66 at best espicially on some OS like XP Home which is locked at UDMA33 and only capable of hitting the UDMA66 with a registry hack, bye default XP Pro is UDMA66.

If you want spped then go SCSI they are still the fastest drives in the world due to their spindle speed of 15K on the average, a 10K Raptor is still pricey but can actually use thier bursting ability to cut long load times in games like Doom 3 down to about 20% of what a standard SATA or PATA drive will do it in, but I dont think their high cost is worth it when you can go SCSI for a few bucks more.

I searched about a little, but how do you do the UMDA66 regisrty hack on home? My main PC is still XP Home unfortunately Smile

You might try seaching Annoyances.org

I havent been there in awhile but thats probably covered there, I think Black Viper is no more ? I know he had a registry key for it on his site.

I think its on the site I got that " Right click & Empty Recycle bin" hack from. I will look around a bit and see if I can find it , havent had a use for it in eons so its not a key I have kept track of.

I will let you know if I find it Wink

Here you go dude, Direct from the Jack Asses mouth Smile

That should take care of it, one thing I dont know is if Service Pack 2 enabled this, Though Service Pack 2 is without a doubt the biggest waste of time and drive space I think I have ever seen... Unless of course you have the IQ of a Shoe or like Microsoft playing god with poorly done "Security Enhancemants" ...Pffft give me a break... Its more like a browser highjacker than anything else Angry Probably the most idiotic part of iti is that its a complete joke from a security standpoint and the amount of drive space required for ir is absurd.

I can't find the registry key that thing tells me to find, but I'm running AMD not Intel so not sure if it would work or is needed anyway? Is there any way to check whether I have UDMA66 disabled or not? Do AMD chipsets need it or is it just Intel?

Thanks dude!

Origionally it didnt matter what youre chipset was, the OS was written bye default to use UDMA33 and nothing else. As far as I know its still that way.
If that key isnt in youre registry then its definitly not the one I have used in the past, so I will keep looking as every version of XP be it Home or Pro has a UDMA key in the registry. Other wise it wouldnt function, as for checking to see what its set at now .... About the only thing I can think of that may tell you outright would something like Sisoft Sandra or Belarc Advisor so you may want to check them out.

You may try this aswell [ Fresh Diagnose ]

http://www.freshd..._test.html

Either way I will find the key since I know its outthere Smile

Thses guy list the same one thats for Intel Chipsets but dont tell you thats what its for.

http://overclock....guide.html

Same thing here
http://www.helpwi...to-05.html

Ive only used Intel board sets so maybe this is the hack I used to use with home, but Im positive the one I used was a generic key to enable UDMA regardless of the chipset.

You might try a search and put youre chipset manufacturer in there. Something like

xp home udma66 key for whatever chipset

Let me know what youres is and I will look aswell.

Here is a neat little batch file to dump youre Prefetch folder anytime you want with the click of the icon versus physically doing. Grin

OMG IT'S ETHAN HAWKE! Lol, never seen that movie before, probably not my type of thing to be truthful.

I don't mind films that are dialogue driven, so long as they are interesting. Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were never much more than long conversations between various characters, but they're still two of my favourite films.

Dialogue movies? The only dialogue driven movies I want is the Godfather series, which is a whole damn classic on its own.

Haven't watched Scarface yet, but I'd love to check it out in a long time now.

Anyway, I watched Enter the Dragon again... thrice Grin. I still find it awesome even after watching it like more than 10x already Pfft

Enter The Dragon is a classic, I still remember paying over the odds to buy an import VHS 25th Anniversary edition, because you couldn't buy it uncut here in the UK (the nunchucks scene was deleted for a start). I still have it actually, in fact it's a limited edition with postcards and stuff.

Ever see "Enter The Fat Dragon" with Sammo Hung? Not the greatest film but it had some pretty cool fights and was quite funny! Grin

Random info: more smilies have been added finally! Still looking for a mod that lets you have a popup window so I can add in the bigger smilies that are too large to show on the page with the rest.

Smile Wink :|:( Shock Roll Eyes  Pfft Cool Grin Angry LOL :eh:    Ninja    Thumbs Down Thumbs Up

I like the new smilies - particularly the ninja one!

Enter the Dragon is one of my favourite films too. You can tell it's sheer greatness by the number of imitators alone. Definately a genre-defining classic.

Haven't watched Scarface yet, but I'd love to check it out in a long time now.

Scarface is also great and the gradual rise and fall of Tony Montana is fascinating (rags to riches to greed to jealousy to death in mass carnage m16 'say hello to my little friend' coke-fuelled shootout Wink)

I know this has been posted before but it's great: (not work/school safe Grin)

I've always liked Godfather way more then Scarface. Scarface is a fun movie to watch but now that i'm older i realize how cheesy it is and i end up laughing at most of the scenes.

Enter the Dragon Rocks.

i started playing this mmorpg called "Tantra"
mainly because it used to be subscription based, but now it's free. (but you can pay for better items and stuff).. so im checking it out, kinda nice, has that hindu/buddhist asian flair to it... and everything seems to spoken in hindu/sanskrit terms. lol, like EXP = "Pranas" , Skill Points = "Chakras", and etc... the classes are also in said terms like my cahracter for instance, is typically called a Martial Artist in otehr mmorpgs, but in Tantra its referred to as "Gandharvas".. which is again, prrtty accurate (if you know your asian history)... the enemies too are strange, maintainging that asian/hindu flavor, from white tigers and demon wolves to weird multi armed statue creatures.. the weapons though have different feels to it.. my character for instance has punching gloves, which looks sci-fi to be honest, while other classes have Kris swords or fancy staffs...

anyways, off to play Pfft

In months that I feared that I'm gaining a little too much wait, it's great that due to my leg pains and overall joints being in pain a few weeks ago, it did have a benefit for me and I lost some weight. Being the first time that I ever got this weak in years, I decided to start my minor martial arts training. I reckon some things need to be kept up or else it's gonna mess me up a bit Pfft

But yeah anyway, with the next week no work week with no money , I reckon playing some of my old games or going out will help me pass the time. Because awesome games never die... they just go away temporarily from gamer 'til needed. LOL

It had been said that the more depressed or corrupt a person's mind is, the less he/she feels Christmas in his/her heart and soul Grin Don't ask me where I get those sayings though. They either became part of my mind in something I read before or are created by me. Stereotypical geriatric philosophical kung-fu master, I am LOL
