Batman games!
Shiny
A new Batman film just about to hit the cinema means that a new piss poor licensed game can't be far behind... Over the years there have been so many Batgames, from the platform ZX Spectrum capery to the Splinter Cellery of Batman Begins. Alas, so very few of them did the license justice...

Anywho, the best Batman game for any system ever? I can't decide between Batman for PC Engine and Batman Returns on the SNES...

Batman on the NES man... that one is the best! Also, IM FUCKING Excited for the new Batman! I've been following the movie since 2006 I swear!!

Hell yeah! Grin Batman on the NES by Sunsoft is my fav., followed closely by The Adventures of Batman & Robin by SEGA.

Batman has been one of the luckiest when it comes to super hero franchises getting decent video game translations.

Man, Batman Forever for SNES kicks ass. The names of the bad guys you fight get better with each level. Can't forget the classics like 'Lippy Lou', 'Tough Tony', or 'Clawhammer'.

Batman Returns for the SNES is great. I also remember playing this a lot waaay back in 1990 on the CPC:

http://www.cpczon...t/game/101

Looks like absolute ass now, but back then it was a really good game and got great reviews. Either way it'll still probably play better than the crap they'll release to tie in with the latest movie Wink

The movie does look fricken awesome though...

I had the ZX Spectrum version! Which was a lot less colourful... Not to go off topic too much but standards were somewhat lower back then. I remember the Spectrum Strider graphics being described as arcade perfect, hahaha. Yeah, right. Batman got pretty good reviews as I recall, though my Mother cringed at the idea of paying 10 for it. I don't care how big the box is, it'll be a cold day in Hell before I pay 10 for a game!! Haha, she had no idea the console thing was just around the corner...

Yeah, the movie does look awesome. Smile

Best Batman? Batman Returns on the Mega-CD. The driving levels are as good as many full driving titles!

Worst Batman? Batman Forever: The Arcarde Game on PS1
Go forward for make away as joystick. Push A button for approach of enemy. Break of enemy for A and B. Make high score for break get together - Neo Mr Do!

Although I'm not much of a comic book reader, I do really like comic characters. Strange, I know, but Batman is doubtlessly my favorite due to his status (not really having any superpowers but kicks ass nonetheless), the Animated Series (hoping to get the complete set for Christmas), his films (The Dark Knight = OOOHHHHH YEEEAHHHH), and most definitely his games.

Out of my top five Batman games, three of them have already been mentioned. Batman by Sunsoft for the NES is certainly one of the best-known out of all of them, infamous for its brutal difficulty. I have beaten it, and what a tough it was. I'm glad the final battle was against The Joker, but in a prototype version, that's not the case! Do behold: http://youtube.co...tLVxW0T9HE

Then there's Batman Returns for the SNES, which I adore since I'm a sucker for beat-em-ups. If only the finale against The Penguin was as tough in the movie as in the game... on a semi-related note, the icons of enemies are almost total ripoffs of the style from Final Fight.

Konami made BR, as well as the Adventures of Batman and Robin for the SNES. This is my second favorite game in the series because it captures the spirit of the animated series SO damn well. Hell, elements from the show were put RIGHT into the game, and they translated very well into action form. I totally love this game's style, and its gameplay is great, but goddamn, is this game hard. It's also very lengthy, and The Riddler's stage is just overkill. I'd argue it's almost as hard as the Genesis AoBaR, which isn't on my top five, but it gets honorable mention. I especially love its music, even though the gameplay gets redundant and over-the-top in difficulty sometimes.

As for two that haven't been mentioned, they are also by Sunsoft (who usually made damn good licensed titles, surprisingly). The first is Batman: Revenge of the Joker for the NES. It's not based off of any specific Batman story, but its style seems to best mimic the comics. Instead of punching, Batman relies on his gadgetry to shoot at the enemy. I guess it's like Batman meets Contra, but that's a poor description. It gets brutish the more you go on, but it is a damn fun game well worth playing. Plus, it has shmup scenes with Batman flying on a jetpack, to which I do not object.

And my personal favorite is the Batman Genesis game, also made by Sunsoft and also based off of Tim Burton's first film. It follows the movie even closer than the NES game, chronicling the major action scenes in the film. It even has that insane double-sword guy as a boss! The graphics are dark, and perhaps a tad dull, but they certainly do the job. The music is totally fantastic, especially loving the tunes for the Flugelheim Museum and the music that plays for both of the shmup scenes. Yup, there are shmup scenes in this game too: One with the Batmobile and another with the Batwing. A bud of mine said that the gameplay is akin to the Genesis Shinobi games, and that's a good assessment. I highly recommend this one be played. Love it so much that I hunted down a boxed copy. Grin

... wow, a mouthful I said, eh? LOL

Awesome. I really liked the art style of those cut scenes better than the original actually. Considering that the "badies" in that game didn't really fit the batman lore as it was besides Joker, that wouldn't have been such a bad ending.

I really wanted to like the game that released on the LYNX platform, Batman Returns I think ?

lol I guess I could go look since I have it but im being lazy Grin

As I recall it has a damn near impossible difficulty level, but looked nice. maybe I will try and play it later.

Im hoping to see good things from Lego Batman but I doubt it after the waste treatment they gave Indiana Jones, not a total waste but really crappy compared to the Star wars games.

I spent most of the eighties, most of my life, riding around in somebody else's car, in possession of, or ingested of, something illegal, on my way from something illegal to something illegal with many illegal things happening all around me.
