Waku Waku 7 - Game of the Week

Of course I played the game before and tried it boogiepop, or how else could I have mapped it and told you about the ending of Tesse. You have to pay attention when I discuss about my taste for games. Don't you know? I'm not the first to say Waku Waku 7 is a Dragonball Z rip off, 7 balls to make a wish, doesn't ring a bell? Some GameFAQs and Game reviews seem to think so. Whatever the reason Boogiepop, I am not changing my mind or retrying out the game. You might wonder why I bothered to map it. It is because Vgmaps was lacking in Neo-Geo maps and I had map something to increase variety. Anyway I'll just wait for the next Gotw and pray that it will be something different.

Don't forget that Dragon Ball was originally based upon an old Chinese tale called "Journey to The West", so in fact you could call Dragon Ball a Journey to the West rip off. Waku Waku is not really a rip off, because it's a satire on Dragon Ball and many other characters from games etc. and it doesn't take itself seriously, it's more to be seen as a parody.

I played this game on emulator and i found it very enjoyable. Good controls, nice graphics and music and i think to make a parody of fighting games is great idea. Bonus Kun Grin

Will, your beef is with me, not boogie. And you don't need to pray dude, if the next GotW isn't something different it'll be, well, it'll still be the same GotW. Wink

Anyway, let's not have this turn into a slanging match. You're entitled to your opinion and if you don't like WW7 then you don't like it. Let's move on.

I'm gonna be introducing Adam (MetalupyourASS) to it over the coming week. Been ages since I played it against a human being,I can't wait. Smile

I've only played Waku Waku 7 though emulation and while I can see it's a good game I don't really like it enough to want to own it. I guess I just prefer fighting games which are a bit more serious and there's just something about the characters and style of graphics which doesn't really appeal to me all that much. I know that means I'm very much in the minority on this one. I don't really have anything negative to say about the game it's just not my kind of game. That's kind of how I feel about Ninja Masters as well.

I definately agree with the parody statement there. However, the best parodies are solid examples of the genres they represent as well as not taking themselves too seriously. IMO Waku Waku meets both criteria as a responsive and enoyable fighter as well as revelling in its own wacky charm.

Of course it's not for everyone. I'dm glad it's that way rather than being a game that chose the safe and conventional route. I must admit, I do find the character roster too small. Although what is there is great, it's kind of a tease because I just wanted more of it!

One of the Neo's most memorable and charming titles and a solid fighter to boot.

Critics have to realize, Waku Waku 7 isn't taking itself serisously so critics should just shut up, and have fun with this under-rated title.

But perhaps critics do realise Waku Waku 7 isn't taking itself seriously but it's just not their kind of game. I don't think the game would necessarily appeal to everyone and after all it makes things more interesting if we don't all like the same games.

First post and I'm already in an argument? :eh:

Loaded this baby up a little while ago and I must say, the game does what it sets out to do pretty darn well. The characters themselves are a little give and take but overall the cutesiness and humor has me entirely won over. I played for a bit and then was ready to set it aside again and I think that's what's great about this game. You don't have to take it seriously like other fighters but can instead, pull it out on occasion and just bask in the zaniness. I also prefer to the Neo's other kooky fighter: Matrimelee.

By the way, this has definitely one of my favorite title sequences on the Neo. As soon as the music starts I kind of smile a little inside, it's just too good. I'd actually take it over many of the Neo's more visually impressive intros like Garou's. There's just something about it that doesn't get old. Smile
If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.
