Samurai Shodown II For XBLA, Released 10th September!
Yep, you read the headline right... SNK is finally releasing Samurai Shodown 2 onto the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live!!! So many of us have been patiently waiting (or not so patiently in my case) for the game to get a release date for what seems like the longest time, but it is finally coming!
UPDATE: Contrary to what is written below (which was taken from Microsofts official site and other sources), I checked XBLA this morning and the games price is 800 MS Points. The official sites page has been changed too. Hmmm, something is not quite right here. I have downloaded the demo, but I'm going to hold off on purchasing it for a short while... looks like 800 is the real price folks...
This is where it gets even better though... according to the official page on Xbox.com, the game is going to be just 400 MS Points! That is an absolute bargain, especially considering the other classic SNK released a while ago, Fatal Fury Special, was 800 Points, and I felt fine about paying that price. It's a really good decision by SNK, so I hope all of you Xbox 360 owning fans will be purchasing it to support them! :) Also, judging by the screens on that page, the game isn't censored. I really hope that is the case as the lack of blood in the 360 version of Metal Slug 3 was a major annoyance!
There are a couple of rumours going round that it isn't going to have online play via Xbox Live, but I checked out a list of the achievements in the game, and they seem to prove that is not correct as 5 of the said achievements list "online ranked matches". Here's a full list for those interested:
1 Round Perfect (5 points)
Complete a perfect round in single player arcade mode.
The Samurai (15 points)
Complete the single player arcade mode.
The Perfect Samurai (30 points)
Complete the single player arcade mode without losing a round.
Man in Black (10 points)
Kuroko appeared in game as enemy (CPU).
Point Hunter (10 points)
Achieve over 200,000 points in single player arcade mode.
Big Apple (5 points)
Ukyo Tachibana throws big apple.
Am I Cute (5 points)
With any character, enter the "Super Deformation Moves" command to become the doll-like version.
You can find some screenshots here. I'll be getting the game tomorrow, so if anyone wants a game be sure to shoot me a message via the forum thread for the game, which you can find right here! -->
It's no secret that I haven't been posting much here as of late, either on the forums or in form of news etc. I just want to say that this doesn't mean anything is going to happen to the site; I'd never want to close it down while people are still interested, and I haven't lost interest myself either. I have however suffered from a bit of a lack of motivation to do stuff recently, but I'm still here and not going anywhere... you can't get rid of me that easily! :D
This Samurai Shodown 2 release and the news about KOF '98 UM for XBLA, not to mention the fact that we'll hopefully be seeing a LOT more of KOF XII in the very near future have given me some more motivation though! Like I say though, the site is certainly going nowhere!
Well I'm sure that many of you will have seen that we were hacked again over the past day or so. I won't go into what happened exactly but to put it simply someone decided it would be fun to totally nerf the site. I took steps last time to stop it happening again, but I missed something and it seems they took advantage and managed to do it again, but a little more serious this time.
You may notice some glitches (missing images etc) at the moment but I am currently in the process of re-uploading all the content which is taking a while as there is a lot of stuff! If you spot anything that isn't quite right please post a comment using the link below and I'll make sure it gets sorted out asap. We are also missing any posts that were made on the forum on the 28th of July (Monday), so if you posted that day I'm sorry but there wasn't much I could do to save those posts. Not too much of a big deal though I guess, the main thing is that the site is back!
Like I say, if you do spot any glitches (anything at all) please let us know so it can be fixed!
This one is for all of you social networking type people (myself included!). Shiny setup an official NeoGeoForLife.com Facebook group today, so if you are a member of said networking site then feel free to hop on over and join us on the group! If you have anyone on your friends list that might be interested, then invite them to the group as well as the site itself and introduce them to the wonder that is SNK and the Neo Geo!
I may as well mention that we also have a Myspace page and a Youtube page. They haven't been mentioned too often in the past so you may not have seen them yet. Any videos we upload are always put onto Youtube and will also be uploaded to the new Facebook group in the future! I've finally added links to them all on the navigation panel! :)
Another week, another new games to discuss! This time it's yet another often overlooked classic... Twinkle Star Sprites!
It's a very unique game and there's certainly nothing else like it on the Neo Geo! Head on over to our discussion thread for media including screenshots, videos and music!
I felt I should share these really awesome (and insanely cute) KOF renders made by Emo Fairy! Click the image for full size.
Let us know what you think of them in this forum thread! I'm sure Emo Fairy would like to know what you think of them, and as she is currently making some more you could possibly even request some new ones that you would like to see! :)
These are actually a follow up to ones she made last year. You can view those at the link below (her official site).
I'm quite surprised it won last weeks poll, but Nightmare in the Dark is our new Game of the Week! I might be surprised that it beat Twinklestar Sprites, but it is a good fun game, if a little too short.
Check out our Game of the Week forum thread, especially if you have never played the game before as we have screenshots and other media for the game. If you have played it then come and give us your impressions on it. Don't forget to also vote in our NitD poll on the right! :)
Ruckage sent us another custom moves list, this time one that I requested he make and he very kindly obliged! This one is for Samurai Shodown II.
I will definitely be printing all of these out (this one in particular!)... I have a terrible memory so having easy access to a moves list is always handy... plus these look very pretty of course! :D
Check them out and let Ruckage know what you think of them via the comments link at the bottom of this post, or via the comments link in the gallery itself!
After an overwhelming victory in our poll, KOF '94 is now our game of the week! It's amazing that it took us this long to have a KOF game as the GotW really!
I don't need to say too much about this game - I think all of you know all about it! Come to our discussion thread to talk about it and reminisce about your memories of this classic game! We also have a video of the game in the thread with a new intro that Atomduck made for our Game of the Week feature - check it out!
I have changed the poll for next weeks GotW, so you can vote on what game we will cover. The voting will end on Saturday July the 5th and the winner will be featured next week. As Nightmare in the Dark and Twinklestar Sprites are such popular choices, I have kept just those two games as selections, so it will be interesting to see how the voting pans out over the course of the week!
Apparently Metal Slug 7 for the Nintendo DS is to be published by Ignition Entertainment in the US this Autumn (sorry I mean "Fall" for you US guys and gals! :). Quote from 1-Up:
"Truth be told, I have a pink DS and was embarrassed to play it in public. Now with Metal Slug 7 loaded, I have no qualms," quipped Ajay Chadha, president of Ignition Entertainment. "Needless to say, and in all seriousness, we are very excited to announce our partnership with SNK Playmore USA to give both core and casual gamers a whole new insight into the unique, all-action, eye-popping world that is Metal Slug."
I must admit that despite being a huge Slug fan, I don't hold much hope for this one I'm afraid, but I am still hoping to be pleasantly suprised as it may yet turn out to be great! I still wish they would give us a completely new Slug game for home consoles with all new sprites and gameplay additions, but I highly doubt it will ever happen.
Ruckage, one of our members, has made some excellent high resolution custom moves sheets for Neo Geo games. I have uploaded them into a gallery for people to download and print out. I highly recommend that you check them out!
So far there are moves sheets for both The Last Blade 2, and Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Many thanks to Ruckage for making them!
SteveDave 10/06/2008 00:00 That's what I am saying Kaz. I see quite a few vids of him playing GH tourneys and whatnot, he should devote some of that time to a real instrument. No doubt he has skills
Kazuya_UK 10/04/2008 10:48 Maybe so, but he is pretty good for a kid. But yea definitely buy him a real instrument if he's got hand eye coordination that good then he could get really good with the real thing with practice
SteveDave 10/04/2008 08:21 That kid's parents should really give him a REAL instrument to play.
Carmen 10/03/2008 16:16 Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, SNKs pride and joy, killed by your lust. >:
